Talk about a frustrating moment at work — ask your manager

OK, this was so funny I still laugh at it.

One of the directors on the team I was supporting was planning a vacation to Yellowstone. She blocked the day on her Outlook calendar as “Vacation – Out with the Bears.” The week before she left, we were at our weekly team meeting and she reminded everyone that she was going on vacation. It all started with a casual conversation like, “Oh yeah, are you going to Yellowstone?” She said something like, “Yes, I’m going to play with the bears.”

Another director (S) who happened to be sitting next to me said, “Are you a beast already?”

We all died laughing. The manager (M) actually got up and left the room. To be honest, S had no idea what he just said. So another director (K) got up and waved him out into the hallway where he explained the cultural meaning of the term. (Oh, what a wall about that conversation!) Honestly, I think (K) knew what it meant more than (S) knew what it meant. I was surprised.

When they came back, I was still blushing and smiling. (S) sat next to me and whispered, “Did you know what that meant?” Of course! why do you think i’m laughing ‘ He hissed (bewildered), ‘Why didn’t you stop?’ I said, “I never thought you would say that!”

Speaking of which… I have to remind that team of this conversation. Laughter might be useful today.
